HC Deb 24 April 1978 vol 948 cc460-1W
Mr. Brotherton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many halfpennies are currently in circulation; what change this represents on the situation 12 months ago; and what planned increase or decrease in their number is expected over the next 12 months.

Mr. Denzil Davies

Approximately 2,200 million halfpenny coins are estimated to be in the hands of the banks and the public, compared with about 2,100 million a year ago. Issues from the Royal Mint over the next 12 months will depend on demand.
