§ Mr. Brothertonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what alteration in bulk paper orders by the Royal Mint there has been following the reduction in size of the pound note.
§ Mr. Denzil DaviesThe question is a matter for the Bank of England rather than the Royal Mint or Her Majesty's Treasury. The consumption of Bank note paper is governed not merely by size of note but also by factors such as the scale of public demand, the life of the note and the form in which paper is supplied for different types of printing press. So soon after the note's introduction is too early to provide an estimate of the effect these factors will have on bulk paper orders.
