Mr. Forman

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many investment protection agreements have been signed between the United Kingdom and individual developing countries; and if he will list the countries covered and the value of the investments covered.

Mr. Judd

The United Kingdom Government have signed investment promotion and protection agreements with four developing countries. Agreements with Egypt and Singapore were signed in 1975 and with Indonesia and Korea in 1976.

Book values of net assets of direct overseas investments attributable to the United Kingdom at the end of 1974—the latest figures available—are as follows:
