HC Deb 10 April 1978 vol 947 cc332-3W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has made any representations to the Governments of Japan and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on the level of sperm whale catching in the interests of conserving the species; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Judd

We have not made such representations on a bilateral basis but Japan and the USSR are members of the International Whaling Commission and their catches of sperm whale conform with the annual quotas set by the Commission. The sperm whale quotas will be reviewed by the Commission at its annual meeting in June.
