§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister for the Civil Service to what extent since April 1977 the previous increase of 58,400 civil servants which took place between October 1974 and April 1977 has been reduced or increased.
§ Mr. Charles R. Morris:Civil Service numbers are published in the "Monthly Digest of Statistics", copies of which are available in the Library. The latest figures show that the number of civil servants on 1st July 1977 was 739,700; a reduction of 5,900 on the 1st April 1977 total.
