HC Deb 16 November 1977 vol 939 c213W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will publish in the Official Report the number of police officers and their ranks who were advised or decided to retire from office, with and without pension, who were subsequently prosecuted and found guilty of crimes; and what were or are the pensions originally drawn or still being drawn by these convicted criminals.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

I have already given my hon. Friend such information as is available about officers in the Metropolitan Police who have resigned or retired while the subject of an investigation which subsequently led to their conviction for a criminal offence. As regards the 42 other police forces in England and Wales, such information as is available is provided in Chapter IX of the annual Report of Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Constabulary. In so far as this material is insufficient, I regret it would not be possible to provide more without considerable research which I would not consider justified.

The pension entitlement of police officers who retire from police forces is governed by the Police Pensions Regulations 1973.
