HC Deb 16 November 1977 vol 939 cc212-3W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police, plain clothes and in uniform, were on duty in and around the Palace of Westminster on the date when the House adjourned for the summer and at the latest date.

Dr. Summerskill

Sixty officers were on duty on 29th July, and 100 on 4th November. The increase in the number of officers reflects the implementation of improved security arrangements at the Palace following the statement by Mr. Speaker on 27th July—[Vol. 936, c. 631–4.]—and normal seasonal variations.
