asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is currently the average time taken for the issue of a driving licence from the time of receipt to the time of dispatch when issued by local authorities.

Local authorities no longer issue driving licences.

Mr. David Young

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is currently the average time taken for the issue of a driver's licence from the time of receipt to the time of dispatch in each year since issue was transferred to Swansea.

The centre began to issue provisional driving licences in March 1973 and full licences in November 1973. The average time taken for the issue of all driving licences in the subsequent four years was:

1974 7 working days
1975 6 working days
1976 8 working days
