HC Deb 23 February 1977 vol 926 c603W
Mr. Macfarlane

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what alternatives to the conventional sources of energy in the United Kingdom his Department is currently assessing; and what is estimated to be the cost for each project during the next year.

Mr. Eadie

My Department has announced a £1.01 million, two-year programme on wave energy, a three-year programme on geothermal energy totalling £0.84 million, and a four-year programme on solar energy totalling £3.6 million. Assessment studies are proceeding on wind energy and tidal energy. New programmes will be drawn up as technological options are revealed by the research and studies under way.
