§ Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for Defence what prospects for regular civilian employment he expects to arise at the naval degaussing dock at Amble; and whether these will include opportunities for those who have worked in shipbuilding.
§ Mr. DuffyThe permanent staff of the naval degaussing dock at Amble will consist of about 36 civilian employees. Some key non-industrial posts will be filled by existing MOD staff, but we expect that most employees will be recruited locally, including some electrical technician posts for which people with experience of electrical work in shipbuilding would be suited.
§ Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for Defence When he expects work to begin on the Royal Naval degaussing dock at Amble.
§ Mr. DuffyIt is now expected that work on the fixed degaussing dock at Amble will begin on site in the spring of 1978. This is later than the date I gave the hon. Member on 17th November 1976.—[Vol. 919, c.576.] The deferment results from delays in planning and not as a consequence of cuts in defence expenditure.
