HC Deb 14 February 1977 vol 926 cc53-4W
Mr. David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will consider acquiring for the nation the John Evelyn Library, currently on loan to Christ Church, Oxford, and placing it in the British Library in order to prevent its dispersal.

Miss Margaret Jackson

I understand that the trustees of the collection intend to dispose of the printed books by auction in successive stages. Funds for the acquisition of printed material are voted annually to the British Library, and it is for the Library Board to decide what action to take if parts of the collection are offered for sale.
