HC Deb 10 February 1977 vol 925 cc751-2W
Mr. Gorst

asked the Secretary of State for Transport when the construction of the southbound extension to the M1 motorway will be completed and ready for use by motorists; whether there has been any delay in its being opened to the public; and for what reason such delay occurred.

Mr. Horam

Construction of the southbound extension to the M1 has been completed but its opening has been delayed because it cannot safely be used until the Staples Corner interchange is finished and some minor works have been carried out at Fiveways Corner to change the existing temporary traffic arrangement. This change requires statutory orders but, subject to the satisfactory completion of these, we hope that the motorway and interchange will be fully operational by August this year.
