HC Deb 10 February 1977 vol 925 c800W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many voluntary grammar schools there are in Northern Ireland; what was the cost per student in 1975–76; how this compares with the average cost per student at controlled grammar schools; and how many such schools there are.

Mr. Carter

There are at present 57 voluntary and 22 controlled grammar schools in Northern Ireland. The average cost to public funds for each pupil in attendance during the 1975–76 financial year was £369 in voluntary grammar schools and £372 in controlled grammar schools. These figures have been compiled on the same basis as those for 1974–75 which were published in the Northern Ireland Appropriation Accounts 1975–76 and, therefore, exclude the cost of such items as administration, school transport, milk and meals and capital expenditure.
