asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much financial assistance has already been given to various gas undertakings in Northern Ireland not including any related to the price restraint policy.

£22,745 has been paid to date to the Newry and Mourne District Council under the arrangements explained in Written Answers given on 18th June and 13th December last.—[Vol. 913, c. 291; Vol, 922, c. 557.] I announced on 19th January the allocation of £1 million from EEC European Regional Development Funds to reduce the capital debt of gas undertakings. I shall inform the House in due course how this money is distributed.
