HC Deb 10 February 1977 vol 925 c801W
Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many persons were charged with offences involving violence during 1976; and how many were convicted by the courts.

Mr. Mason

The number of charges for offences involving violence could not be obtained without disproportionate effort. During 1976, however, 1,276 persons were charged with terrorist-type offences and 934 persons were convicted on indictment of scheduled offences in the same period. In view of the time lag between charging and trial, the two figures are not related.
