HC Deb 10 February 1977 vol 925 c802W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what arrangements currently exist to prevent the practice of British subjects who work in the Republic of Ireland from claiming unemployment benefit in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Carter

Control of this type of abuse is effected by means of visits by officers of the Northern Ireland Department of Health and Social Services to the homes of claimants. The facts in cases of unexplained absences are reported to the insurance officer for consideration of whether benefit is payable.
