Mr. Hodgson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will publish in theOfficial Report the number of National Health Service beds available in the Walsall area per 1,000 population for all patients, geriatric patients, paediatric patients, general medical patients and acute surgical patients, respectively; and how these compare with the national average;

(2) what is the average number of patients on gynaecological waiting lists in the Walsall Area Health Authority; and how this compares with the national average.

Mr. Hodgson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the authorised establishment of qualified radiologists at each of the hospitals in the Walsall Area Health Authority; and how many vacancies there are at each.

Mr. Moyle

The West Midlands Regional Health Authority has allocated three posts for consultant radiologists to Walsall. Currently all three are vacant.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many vacancies there are for junior housemen, registrars and senior registrars, respectively, in the Walsall Area Health Authority.

Mr. Moyle

There is currently only one vacancy, for a senior house officer.

Mr. Hodgson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many dentists per 1,000 population practise in the Walsall Area Health Authority; and how this compares with the national average.

Mr. Moyle

On the latest available information the number of dentists practising in the general dental services per 1,000 population is 0 .14 in the Walsall Area compared with 0 .25 for England.

Mr. Hodgson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many doctors have left the National Health Service in the last five years from the Walsall Area Health Authority; and how this compares with the national average.

Mr. Hodgson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what is the average waiting period for a patient needing a hernia operation in the Walsall Area Health Authority; and how this compares with the national average;

(2) what is the average waiting period for a patient needing a gall bladder operation in the Walsall Area Health Authority; and how this compares with the national average.

Mr. Moyle

At present for non-urgent cases the average waiting times are three years ten months and one year five months respectively. National average waiting times for these operations are not available.
