HC Deb 16 December 1977 vol 941 c582W
Mr. MacCormick

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many farmers in Scotland are at present in receipt of social security payments.

Mr. Deakins

I do not know what particular payments the hon. Member has in mind, but if he is referring to social security benefits paid to working families, there is only limited information available relating to family income supplement (FIS). At April 1977, the latest date for which we have figures, about 500 families, including farmers and workers in a variety of agricultural pursuits, were receiving FIS in Scotland. The total number of families in Scotland receiving FIS at the same date was about 9,000.
