§ Mr. Fryasked the Secretary of State for Transport, in the light of the fact that the Hertfordshire County Council's latest transport policy and programme submission includes a map which illustrates overloading of traffic on strategic routes which is as much as 200 per cent. on some lengths of road, whether he will collate similar information from all other councils.
§ Mr. HoramThe information which county councils make available to my right hon. Friend in their transport policies and programmes is a matter for them to decide. But, in any case, collation on a country-wide basis of information similar to that provided by Hertfordshire County Council would not be appropriate and could not be secured without disproportionate cost.
§ Mr. Fryasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether, in view of the fact that the Hertfordshire County Council's last transport policy and programme submission included information that the two-lane section of the M1 passing through that county is 50 per cent. overloaded, he will make a statement as to when and how this situation is likely to be improved, either by the construction of new roads to provide alternative routes or by improvement of this section of the M1.
§ Mr. HoramA public inquiry was held in June 1976 into proposals to widen this section of the M1. The inspector's report is now under consideration by my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for Transport and the Secretary of State to the Environment, and their decision will be made as soon as possible.
