HC Deb 12 December 1977 vol 941 c104W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will appoint a special committee consisting of representatives of the three Services, officers, non-commissioned officers, and other ranks, the CBI, the TUC, and his Department to consider: (a) the hours, wages and working conditions of the Forces, (b) eligibility or otherwise for Forces' enrolment into trades unions, (c) whether a ballot should be held among the Forces on trade union membership and (d) to what extent the innovations in these fields as now operating in Holland should be applied to Great Britain; and if he will publish such a report.

Mr. Mulley

I do not consider that the setting up of such a committee would be helpful at the present time.
