HC Deb 12 December 1977 vol 941 cc103-4W
Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the Defence Codification Authority establishments in South-East London which will be affected by the decision to move to Glasgow, indicating the numbers currently employed at each.

Dr. Gilbert

Mottingham, 295 posts; and Woolwich, 35 posts.

Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many existing staff of the Defence Codification Authority are expected to move to Glasgow as part of the dispersal operation; and whether alternative local employment will be offered to those unable to make the move.

Dr. Gilbert

If it were decided to disperse the Defence Codification Authority to Glasgow the move would not take place until 1981 at the earliest, and it is too early to say how many staff would move with their jobs. Alternative employment within reasonable daily travelling distance would be offered to non-mobile grades affected and the transfer of mobile grades would be carried out on a voluntary basis to the maximum extent possible.
