HC Deb 08 December 1977 vol 940 c853W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the average earnings from private practice of maximum part-time consultants and the present total annual income for those in each category who receive merit awards.

Mr. Moyle

I have no information on the private practice earnings of National Health Service consultants. The independent Review Body on Doctors' and Dentists' Remuneration estimated that in

1974–75 1975–76 1976–77
Walsall 1.37 1.42 1.02
England and Wales 0.66 0.63 0.56

Expenditure on training cannot be separately identified in the returns submitted by local authorities. There are no DHSS guidelines on levels of expenditure on either research and development or training.
