§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many iron lungs are available; how many people are dependent upon them; whether he is satisfied with the supply and conditions of the existing machines; whether there are plans to replace or increase the number available; what steps are taken to ensure that this equipment is regularly maintained and that adequate spares are available; and if he is satisfied that staff in the various hospitals in which the equipment is located are sufficiently acquainted with the equipment and trained to use it.
