HC Deb 21 April 1977 vol 930 c132W
Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will advise police authorities to purchase British equipment wherever possible, particularly in relation to cars and motor cycles.

Dr. Summerskill

Police authorities and chief officers of police have been told that we assume that they will wish to survey the market carefully before buying foreign cars and motor cycles and satisfy themselves that no suitable British-made vehicles of comparable specification and price are available. Authorities and chief officers no doubt take a similar view of purchases of other equipment.
