HC Deb 07 April 1977 vol 929 c655W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans there are for (a) junior and adult training centres and (b) hostels for the mentally handicapped in the Ormskirk area; and what projects have been deferred and until when.

Mr. Moyle

The Lancashire County Council has proposals for a second adult training centre and further hostel provision to serve the West Lancashire area, but these continue to be deferred because of other pressures on available resources and a start is currently not expected within the next five years. Junior training centres were discontinued in 1971, when local education authorities assumed responsibility for the education of the children concerned, including, where appropriate, the provision of residential accommodation.
