HC Deb 22 November 1976 vol 919 cc920-1W
Mr. Lawrence

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what assistance is currently given in the field of crime prevention by central computers; and what plans the Government have for extending their use.

Dr. Summerskill

The police national computer assists police operations, including crime prevention, by giving all forces immediate access to certain central records including those of stolen and suspect vehicles. Next year an index of criminal names and of wanted and missing persons will be available.
