HC Deb 02 November 1976 vol 918 c536W
23. Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if, in view of the Prime Minister's speech at Ruskin College, Oxford, she will now make a statement on the Government's policy towards orientating university and polytechnic students to meet industrial needs and the gearing of school curricula towards science, mathematics and engineering.

24. Mr. Wyn Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she is satisfied with her Department's provision for education and training for industry.

Mrs. Shirley Williams

I attach a high priority to encouraging more young people to study engineering and applied science at school, to pursue these studies in higher education, and to enter a career in industry. I am studying as a matter of urgency with my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Industry and Employment how this might best be done.
