HC Deb 02 November 1976 vol 918 cc531-2W
Mr. Higgins

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will make

biton near the northern end of the Esher bypass will have the use of two traffic lanes.

Mr. Horam

Within the next few weeks, subject to the weather.

Mr. Jessel

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what was the total cost of the new underpass and ancillary works on the A3 at New Malden; why the roundabout over the underpass has been made wide enough for five lanes of traffic; and how much would have been saved if it had provided for two lanes only.

Mr. Horam

The current total estimated cost is £5.3 million. The junction was designed to cater for expected 1991 traffic flows. Two lanes would be insufficient.
