§ Mr. MulleyThe Department's Assessment of Performance Unit has been set up to promote the development of methods of assessing and monitoring the achievement of children at school, and the unit's work will be concerned with pupils of both primary and secondary school age. Her Majesty's Inspectorate is currently engaged in a national survey of primary education, in parallel with which the National Foundation for Educational Research is conducting tests in mathematics and reading.
