HC Deb 02 March 1976 vol 906 cc518-9W
33. Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list the number of teachers who qualified in 1975, and are expected to qualify in 1976, having taken special courses for the education of the severely handicapped.

Mr. Mulley

I assume the hon. Member is referring to teachers who have taken a course of initial training with a special option in the education of mentally handicapped children. Final figures are not yet available for 1975, but it is estimated that about 310 teachers successfully completed such courses. The estimated figure for 1976 is 340.
