HC Deb 02 March 1976 vol 906 c573W
Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the average current cost of a newly constructed local authority three-bedroomed house; what would be the economic rent necessary to meet all debt charges, management costs, &c.; and what is the average unrebated rent charged by local authorities in Wales for houses of this size.

Mr. Alec Jones

The latest available average cost for a new three-bedroomed local authority house is £10,000, including land costs. An economic weekly rent to cover debt charges, supervision and management, repairs and maintenance, estimated to cost £1,097 per annum, would be £21.10.

The average unrebated rent charged for local authority houses in Wales at April 1975, the most recent date for which figures are available, was £4.10. This is, however, an average over all types and ages of dwellings. Separate figures are not available for new houses, or for houses of specified sizes.
