HC Deb 02 March 1976 vol 906 cc572-3W
Mr. Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for Wales when he expects to receive the report of the inspector who presided over the recently concluded inquiry into the route of the North Wales expressway;

(2) when he expects to announce his final decision with regard to the route of the North Wales expressway;

(3) whether, in view of the recently announced cuts in Government expenditure, the North Wales expressway will be (4) constructed; and, if so, what is the earliest date when such construction will commence.

Mr. Barry Jones

I assume the hon. and learned Member is referring to the proposed new length of A55 trunk road between Llanddulas and Aber. This long and complex inquiry has only just ended, and it is bound to be some time before we receive the inspector's report. At this stage I cannot forecast when my right hon. and learned Friend's decision will be announced, but it remains our aim to start the work sometime in 1978–1979.
