asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what public works in the Londondery, Limavady and Coleraine Council areas will be curtailed, postponed and cancelled by the cuts in public expenditure announced by his right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer; what savings will result in each council area; and what percentage of the original estimates for public works these figures represent in each council area.

Mr. Merlyn Rees, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 1st March 1976; Vol. 906, c. 450], gave the following information:

It is not possible to analyse by district council area the total savings which will be made as a result of recently announced changes in planned public expenditure. The effect of these changes on particular programmes is still under consideration, and some cannot be related to particular areas. Decisions have, however, been taken on the following major public works in the Londonderry, Limavady and Coleraine Council areas:

Londonderry Council area Major Road Works Madam's Bank Bridge—start postponed from 1975–76 to 1980–81, and plans for associated road works modified. T7 (Waterside-Caw)—start postponed from 1976–77 to 1978–79, but planned provision increased to include the Glendermot link road. Quay Routes Stages 2 and 3—Replaced by Quay Route extension, started in January 1976, and Strand Road improvement scheme, to be started in 1977–78. Academy Road/Asylum Road/Northland Road—Plans for improvement works curtailed. Western Distributor (to service the Shan-tallow area)—Start postponed from 1979–80 to 1983–84.

Other Public Works New Government office building—Start post poned from 1978–79 to 1979–80.

Limavady Council Area A6 Dungiven bypass—Start postponed from 1975–76 to 1983–84. T7 Limavaldy-Ballykelly bypass stage I—Plans modified and start postponed from 1978–79 to 1982–83. T7 Limavady-Ballykelly bypass stage II, phase I—Plans modified and start postponed from 1979–80 to 1986–87.

Coleraine Council Area Coleraine ring stage III—Plans curtailed. B17 Bushmills Road, Coleraine—Improvement works postponed from 1977–78 to 1984–85. Coleraine Town Centre stage I—Start to new road works postponed from 1978–79 to 1984–85. Coleraine Town Centre stage II—Start to new road works postponed from 1979–80 to 1984–85.
