Mr. Wm. Rossasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland why the Land Registration Act (Northern Ireland) 1970 has not yet been brought into operation; and when he intends to take action.
Mr. Merlyn Rees pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 1st March 1976; Vol. 906, c. 449–50], gave the following information:
The sections of the Land Registration Act (Northern Ireland) 1970 dealing with the Statutory Charges Register were brought into operation in June 1971. Appointed day orders bringing the remainder of the Act into operation cannot be made until the Northern Ireland Department of Finance has made new rules governing the day-to-day working of the Land Registry under the Act. The latter requires rules to be made with the advice and assistance of the Land Registry Rules Committee. The advice of the Committee has been sought but has not yet been received.
