HL Deb 15 June 1976 vol 373 cc502-3WA
Lord KENNET

asked Her Majesty's Government:

With which less-developed countries the United Kingdom now has fishery arrangements (including joint ventures, research, et cetera, and how they compare with arrangements made by the Soviet Union with those countries and with other less-developed countries.

Baroness LLEWELYN-DAVIES of HASTOE

The United Kingdom has arrangements under the official aid programme for the development of fisheries in 40 less-developed countries. I gave a list of these countries in a Written Answer to my noble friend on 20th May (Official Report Vol. 370, No. 77, cols, 1569–70). Additionally, the White Fish Authority provides consultancy services on a commercial basis to overseas countries, among them, in the last year, Ecuador, Kenya, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka.

No information is available to Her Majesty's Government about any comparable arrangements which the Soviet Union may have made with less-developed countries.
