Mr. Robin F. Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has completed his consultations on the Alexander Report on adult education; and if he will make a statement.

In view of local government reorganisation the period of time for consideration by education authorities and other bodies of the recommendations in the report was extended, and comments are still being received. Consideration is being given to the views that have been expressed along with the recommendations, in the light of current circumstances, and a statement will be made later this year.
