HC Deb 14 June 1976 vol 913 cc39-40W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what sum in excess of £3 million is estimated as necessary to prepare the old Royal High School adequately for occupation by the proposed Scottish Assembly of 150 members by the spring of 1978.

Mr. Harry Ewing

At this stage of planning, the best estimate of the cost of acquiring and adapting the former Royal High School remains as stated by my right hon. Friend the Lord President of the Council in the House on 14th April. —[Vol. 909, c. 1382–90.]

Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what proposals he has for Press and public viewing in the proposed Scottish Assembly.

(2) what proposals he has to use the debating chamber of the proposed Scottish Assembly as a corridor between the two parts of the Royal High School building; and, if he has none, what proposals he has to link the two parts of the building;

(3) what cost estimate he has made for the renovation of drains and eighteenth-century sewers in the environs of the Royal High School of Edinburgh;

(4) whether any inspection has been made of the boys' toilet facilities of the Royal High School; and what estimate has been made of the cost of providing adequate facilities for 150 Scottish assemblymen and staff.

Mr. Harry Ewing

These matters are still being considered by the Property Services Agency as part of its assessment of the alterations required to adapt the former Royal High School for use by the Scottish Assembly.
