HC Deb 26 July 1976 vol 916 c114W
Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the totals awarded by his Department for research into the field of deafness for each of the last 10 years.

Mr. Alfred Morris

Annual totals awarded by my Department since 1972 are:

£
1972–73 13,000
1973–74 20,000
1974–75 69,000
1975–76 74,000

Prior to 1972 the Department did not incur any significant expenditure on research into deafness.

As my hon. Friend is aware from the reply he received from my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science on 20th July—[Vol. 915, c.447]—my Department is now helping to fund the new Institute of Hearing Research.
