HC Deb 26 July 1976 vol 916 c114W
Mrs. Wise

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the total cost of unemployment benefit, supplementary benefit paid by reason of unemployment, and redundancy payments, during 1975.

Mr. Deakins

In the calendar year 1975 the estimated cost of unemployment benefit was £380 million and the cost of supplementary benefit paid by reason of unemployment about £300 million. The only information we have about the cost of redundancy payments relates to those made under the redundancy payments scheme, estimated at nearly £200 million in 1975.
