Dr. Hampson

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proportion of the age group of 18 to 20 years of age is enrolled in higher education; and what proportion is in full-time and part-time further education.

Mr. Gerry Fowler

In 1974–75 the figures for universities and other grant-aided establishments of higher and further education in Great Britain were as follows:

Percentage of 18–20 year old age groups enrolled
Higher education (full-time advanced courses with a standard of instruction above that required for General Certificate of Education Advanced Level) 10.7
Full-time non-advanced courses in further education 2.9
Part-time further education (all levels at major establishments) 15.2

In addition 2.2 per cent. of this age group were still at school.
