HC Deb 22 January 1976 vol 903 cc554-5W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when he expects the Romanian Government will settle the claim made by Anglo-Dutch interests arising out of the sequestration of petroleum assets.

Mr. Hattersley

On 28th May 1971 the Shell International Petroleum Company Limited, London, and Petrom Bucharest signed a Memorandum of Understanding covering a programme and procedure for a separate settlement of the Company's claim. The Memorandum, which is confidential to the two parties, is referred to in Article 9 of the Agreement between Her Majesty's Government and the Government of Romania relating to the settlement of certain financial matters which was signed on 12th January 1976 (Cmnd. 6376). This Agreement provides for a settlement of the claims of the remaining British oil interests.
