Notes:—No figures were collected for April 1974 because of local authority reorganisation.
Employment of administrative, professional, technical and clerical staff was 85,400 in October 1974, 87,200 in April 1975, and 88,300 in October 1975. These numbers cannot be allocated to particular types of work, and they include staff engaged on the design, control, etc., of construction work irrespective of whether the work is to be carried out by the authority's own direct labour force or by a contractor.
