HC Deb 09 February 1976 vol 905 c99W
Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much his Department spent annually on publications for the Department Library, and Department sections in 1975, 1974 and 1971.

Mr. Crosland

Publications are purchased centrally by the library and separate amounts for sections are not available. The annual expenditure was 1975, £185,000; 1974, £133,500; and 1970, £94,000.

Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if there are any criteria laid down to determine how many copies of a publication are bought by his Department.

Mr. Crosland

Yes. The number of copies bought depends upon the nature, importance, quality and price of the publication; the number of persons having a need for it and where they are located.
