HC Deb 02 February 1976 vol 904 cc482-3W
Mr. Carlisle

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what sum of money, if any, is being provided by the Government to the Cheshire County Council specifically for the purpose of converting existing selective secondary schools into comprehensive schools.

Miss Joan Lestor

The Cheshire local education authority has been informed of six projects accepted by my right hon. Friend as eligible to start within the total capital authorisation set aside nationally to assist comprehensive reorganisation. All are intended to enable reorganisation to proceed at the schools concerned. The estimated cost of these projects as submittee by the authority was £562,000. The capital authorisations are not grants to authorities but sums within which loan sanction will be allowed.
