HC Deb 02 February 1976 vol 904 cc403-4W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment which strategic and primary roads in Suffolk are included as a basis for discussion in his first selection of through routes for heavy lorries.

Mr. Marks

The roads referred to are the A12, A140, A45, A134, A11, A143, A146, A1116 and A604.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will ensure that heavy lorries en route to the sums of money have been allocated within the rate support grant for 1976–77 to individual local authorities in the Yorkshire and Humberside region, together with corresponding final figures for 1975–76.

Mr. Oakes

The following table shows(a) the provisional initial needs element entitlements of authorities in the Yorkshire and Humberside region for 1976–77, compared with (6) the initial payments in 1975–76 and (c) the needs grant totals following the Rate Support Grant (Increase) (No. 2) Order, 1975.

Haven ports which at present pass through the village of Clare in south Suffolk will be required as far as possible to use one of the proposed national lorry routes as soon as these are established.

Mr. Marks

At least initially the national network, when it is agreed, will be advisory. It will be for local authorities to use their road traffic regulation powers to prohibit heavy lorries from unsuitable roads off the network.
