HC Deb 09 December 1976 vol 922 cc308-9W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Transport when the last traffic flow census was taken on the London-Birmingham stretch of the M1; and if he is able to draw conclusions from it about the total number of vehicles to use this road in both directions in a full year.

Mr. Horam

Continuous automatic traffic counters are operating south of the Luton spur and in the vicinity of the Newport Pagnell service area. Following is the total traffic at each of these sites for the whole of 1975:

  • South of Luton: 22.22 million vehicles.
  • Newport Pagnell: 18.62 million vehicles.
