Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what proposals the Government are putting forward in relation to the major review of the GATT Multi-Fibre Arrangement.

Mr. Meacher

,pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 29th July 1976; Vol. 916, c.402],gave the following information:

We are at present very carefully considering this matter, with particular reference to proposals which have been put forward by both sides of industry; and we shall be having further consultations with industry. I would not expect that we shall have arrived, before the autumn, at a basis for discussion within the EEC.
