HC Deb 02 August 1976 vol 916 c642W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with the present house building programme of local authorities on Merseyside.

Mr. Freeson

There is much still to be done in all our big conurbations, including Merseyside, in new building, rehabilitation and widening the variety of social ownership and tenure. Following the statement by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 22nd July, any programmes will have to be fitted within available resources: but my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment will ensure that these are concentrated on meeting the needs of stress areas.
