HC Deb 02 August 1976 vol 916 cc512-3W
38. Mr. Arthur

Lewis asked the Attorney-General why it took him until 20th July to send a formal acknowledgement of receipt of the communication sent to him on 5th July by the hon. Member for Newham, North-West, concerning legal matters affecting the Canning Town Glass Works; what was contained in this letter which could not have been sent earlier; and whether he will expedite the formal acknowledgement and replies to Members' correspondence.

The Attorney-General

My hon. Friend's letter to me dated 5th July asked for detailed replies to a number of extremely serious allegations made by a constituent of his. Enquiries were made from which it became apparent that a detailed reply could not then be given. It was, therefore, decided to acknowledge the letter and to promise to reply further as soon as possible. A reply in those terms was sent on 20th July. A fuller reply has now been sent, as promised.
