HC Deb 08 April 1976 vol 909 c280W
Miss Maynard

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether, in view of the current rate of unemployment in the trade, he will take action to prevent the import from Holland and other parts of Europe, and from Canada and the United States of America, of processed chips undercutting the price at which they can be produced in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Bishop

No. We are doing all we can to assist potato processers by improving the supply position of raw potatoes, but in the present overall shortage, it would not be in the consumers' interest to seek to restrict the import of processed potatoes. Imports from the main supplying countries are subject to duty.
